As an answer to this challenge, by late 2016 Prolesur and Fonterra started the “Interchange Programme for Young Farmers Related to the Dairy Industry”, through which we look to encourage the practice and gaining of knowledge, experiences, and technologies related to the industry among young talent between 18 and 35 years old from the regions of Los Lagos, Los Ríos and La Araucanía.
For one year, the selected young people will live and have a paid job at milk farms in New Zealand, country that is a global leader on the dairy product exporting, where they will be able to carry out milking activities, assistance in animal health and welfare matters, grassland management, machinery maintenance, among other farming tasks.
It is a unique opportunity to learn and grow in personal and professional terms. And, once the programme is finished, they will be able to come back to Chile with all the acquired experience to contribute to the development of the economy of the south of Chile.
